Marcia Huyer studied sculpture at the Ontario College of Art and Design. She completed her MFA in 2006 at the University of Victoria. She has exhibited internationally and nationally, primarily in artist-run centres. Exhibiting in such places as the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria, BC; ODD Gallery, Yukon; Hamilton Artist’s Inc; Artspace, Peterborough; the Khyber Art Centre, Halifax. She has also participated in projects such as Nuit Blanche and WADE in Toronto and CAFKA ‘07, Kitchener, ON.
Huyer is a recent recipient of the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council Grants. Marcia Huyer has been working with the medium of inflation since 2003, creating installations that confront the viewer physically, mentally, and emotionally. Huyer’s installations welcome the spectator to be turned on by its questionable beauty, momentarily capturing them from time by extending an alternative place of imagination and contemplation.
